Traction Therapy

If you’re dealing with a back condition, traction therapy might help your spine feel better. For example, it may help soothe irritated discs in your spine. We use skilled techniques and special tools to perform this therapy.

Patient Education

Managing a musculoskeletal injury or condition takes more than active and passive therapies. Our expert advice will help your body feel healthier. We can recommend exercise routines, develop diet plans, and suggest lifestyle changes to improve your health.

Along with active therapy, we may perform passive therapy. This type of therapy addresses pain points and areas of limited mobility. Hot and cold therapy, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and light therapy are some examples of passive therapy.

Dry Needling

Dry needling therapy involves inserting acupuncture needles into affected muscles. Even though dry needling shares several similarities with acupuncture, they work differently. The treatment relaxes knots in your muscles to minimize pain and restore function.

Once we’ve inserted needles into the trigger points of your muscles, blood will pool around the needles. It helps release your knots, provides fresh oxygen and nutrients, and eliminates acids. Eventually, this reaction reduces pressure on your blood and nerves. Dry needling can help treat joint and disc issues, headaches, and repetitive stress disorders.

Conditions We Treat

Tension headaches and migraines are the most common types of headaches. A tension headache triggers mild to moderate pain, while a migraine causes chronic, piercing pain.

Back Pain

Back pain may occur in your upper back or lower back. A variety of factors can lead to an aching back, including strained muscles, herniated discs, and osteoarthritis.

Neck Pain

Neck pain often occurs when your neck stays in a certain position for too long. It may also stem from awkward sleeping positions, accidents, sprains, and other causes.

Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints. Depending on the type of arthritis, you might experience different symptoms such as joint pain and swelling, fatigue, fever, and limited mobility.

Knee Pain

Various causes can hurt your knee. Typically, an achy knee might stem from sprains or strains but conditions like arthritis, tendonitis, and gout may trigger knee pain, as well.

Dr. Shane MacPhee

Dr. Shane MacPhee

Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Shane MacPhee graduated from Grand Valley State University and received his Doctor of Chiropractic from National University of Health Sciences. He has been serving patients in the Commerce Township, West Bloomfield, and Walled Lake area for four years. Dr. Shane was inspired to become a chiropractor in high school when he played hockey and dealt with a nagging back issue. Luckily, there was a chiropractor in his area who saw student athletes at his school free of charge. He always thought then, “Wow! This seems like a cool job!” After going back and forth with different options within the health field, he finally decided while attending Grand Valley that chiropractic was the right choice for him.

He enjoys seeing people walk out of his doors in a much better mood and condition from when they originally entered. It’s a nice feeling to see someone change from one visit, one week, or even one month to the next. Dr. Shane has a particular interest in treating sports injuries, low back pain, and migraines. He utilizes many different techniques including, but not limited to: Chiropractic adjustment, IMJT, therapeutic exercise, Rock-Tape (PMT certified), Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), soft tissue release, cupping, Flexion Distraction, and traction.
